Pikisaari

Winter sun is very low even at midday.
Pikisaari is island toward downtown. There used to be different kind of industry in old days, example enamel and wool factories, sawmill and foundry. In these days there is about 150 inhabitants, artist's and artisan's workshops and arts and crafts school.

Tähän aikaan vuodesta aurinko on kovin matalalla keskipäivälläkin.
Pikisaari on aivan Oulun keskustan edustalla. Entivanhaan siellä on ollut kaikenlaista teollisuutta mm. emali- ja villatehtaat, saha ja valimo. Nykyään Pikisaarta asuttaa noin 150 henkeä, siellä on taiteilijoiden ja käsityöläisten työhuoneita sekä käsi- ja taideteollinen oppilaitos.

Today was totally different kind of autumn weather, but the rain has been so rare phenomenon in this summer that it is only refreshing for a change.

Tänään olikin sitten aivan erilainen syyssää. Tosin vesisade on ollut niin harvinainen ilmiö tänä kesänä että se tuntuu vain virkistävältä vaihtelulta.

Summer solstice - Kesäpäivän seisaus

To celebrate the longest and lightest day of the year here in north I post this photo of four elements. Sun - the fire, sea - the water, concrete pier - the earth, and those white dots around the sun are water drops which hard wind – the air – splashed to my lens.

We don’t have the midnight sun here in Oulu but we have anyway these white nights. Sun is below the horizon only couple of hours, today it sets at 00.21 and rices again at 02.18.

Juhliakseni vuoden pisintä ja valoisintä päivää täällä pohjoisessa postaan tämän neljän elementin kuvan. Aurinko- tuli, meri - vesi, betonilaituri - maa ja nuo valkoiset täplät auringon ymparillä ovat kovan tuulen - ilma - linsiin roiskauttamia vesipisaroita .

Oulussa ei ole keskiyön aurinkoa mutta valoisat kesäyöt meillä kumminkin on. Aurinko on horisontin alapuolella vain muutaman tunnin, tänään aurinko laskee 00.21 ja nousee taas 02.18.

Dammisaari

Today we had a little evening walk at Hupisaaret Park. Hupisaaret is a quite large park area near downtown. It was still raining but the air was fresh and smelled good. Time of shooting 9.03 PM.

Dawn

Shot while coming home from a party at 2.26 AM, from a bridge between Pikisaari (= pitch island) and Hietasaari (= sand island) toward Tuira district.

Again a last photo of the day is a selected one. I was already coming home from little trip to the seaside and end of the breakwater, and I was frozen and hungry, but just couldn’t pass this view.

Downtown at sunset

After a sunny (!) day it was a proper sunset for a long time, so I discarded my previous daily photo candidates and rushed with my camera to shoot romantic, pink sunset photos.

This morning was foggy and calm, so the view at strait near by was quite a dreamy.
